This year marks the fiftieth anniversary of Prague Spring and the Russian invasion of Czechoslovakia. Several months after this event I arrived in Australia as a seven year old refugee. Finding Home draws on experiences and feelings associated with the migrant journey. Although my work is heavy with personal and cultural symbolism, it explores fundamental human themes. While the works in Finding Home celebrate the beauty and significance of tradition, they also explore its fading influence and the desire to adapt and belong in a new country. Most of the work is created with pastel on paper, my favourite means of expression. I enjoy the immediate and vital way marks on paper can both express my ideas and communicate them to others.
